Returning to YEG – Unifor Growth Across the Airport Continues
Thank You for the Strong Engagement
Thank you again for the time you spent with us during our last visit to YEG. It was an incredibly engaging and meaningful opportunity to connect, hear directly from you, and have open conversations about the issues that matter most in your workplace.
We appreciated the honest dialogue around building solidarity with airport workers across WestJet and the shared interest in strengthening your collective voice. Those conversations are exactly how real momentum is built.
Unifor is Growing at YEG
There is real momentum building in Edmonton.
The Canada Industrial Relations Board has officially certified Unifor as the bargaining agent for AGI passenger service workers at YEG supporting both United Airlines and Alaska Airlines.
This is a significant development for airport workers in Edmonton. It means more workers at YEG are choosing collective representation to secure better wages, protections, and a stronger voice at work.
You are not alone in exploring this path. Workers across the airport are already taking that step.
We’re Coming Back to YEG
Many of you asked us to come back and continue the discussion around the union advantage, and we are glad to do just that.
Billy and Mark will be back at YEG from May 1 to May 4. We will be available for informal conversations, answering questions, and digging deeper into how unionization can deliver long term improvements through collective bargaining, including stronger job security, fair and transparent processes, and a real voice in decisions that affect your work.
Where Things Stand at YEG
We want to be clear about where things currently stand.
Approximately 40 percent of you have already signed a Unifor membership card. That is a strong foundation and a clear signal that workers at YEG are ready for change.
To move forward and file an application, a majority is required.
It is also important to note that membership cards are only valid for six months. Some of the current cards will begin to expire soon, which means the window to act is narrowing.
This is a critical moment.
We encourage you to step forward, reconnect with your coworkers, and support those who are interested in learning more about what joining Unifor means before that opportunity is lost.
We also understand that there have been voices in the workplace attempting to discourage or intimidate those exploring unionization. It is important to remember that the benefits of a union agreement apply to everyone, including those who oppose it.
Do not let that pressure silence you.
Stand informed. Stand confident. Stand together to secure stronger representation and a better future at work.
What We Can Talk About
When we connect, we can walk through:
- What the union advantage looks like in real terms
- How collective bargaining delivers enforceable rights and protections
- What workers at other airports have achieved through Unifor
- How organizing works and what the process looks like at WestJet
- Your questions, concerns, and priorities
Unifor in Edmonton That Week
Unifor will also be in Edmonton that same week hosting two important regional events:
- Prairie Regional Employee Family Assistance Program Conference
- Prairie Regional Council, held in person at the Edmonton Convention Centre from April 29 to May 1, 2026
A Chance to See Union Strength in Action
While you are around the airport or downtown, be sure to say hello to the many Unifor members from across the Prairies and the North who will be in the city.
They are coming together to:
- Set the agenda for Western workers over the next year
- Elect representatives
- Strategize on how to win real gains for workers across the region
With so many Unifor members and leaders in the city, it is a great opportunity to connect, learn more, and see firsthand the strength of a united workforce.
Let’s Keep the Conversation Going
If you were not able to connect with us last time, or if you have been thinking more about these conversations, we encourage you to come say hello while we are back.
As always, these conversations are confidential and driven by you.
In solidarity,
