Air travel is a fast growing industry, both globally and in Canada. Over the past decade, airport workers have faced significant erosion in the quality of their employment. This decrease in quality has led to high turnover and has led to workers taking multiple jobs with extended shifts in order to make ends meet.

Increased competition both internationally and from new, low-cost domestic airlines puts further downward pressure on wages, working conditions and safety standards as more capacity is pushed into a market that is already characterized as chronically over-supplied.

There is a better way...

One in twenty Unifor members works in the air transportation industry, which has overall union coverage over 50%. Unifor’s 16,500 air transport members are distributed from coast to coast in 45 bargaining units, some of which are national in scope. With a collective agreement, customer service agents can bargain the protections and compensation they deserve for the hard work they have put in. There is strength in numbers!
