Something interesting happened on the way to the AEA meetings.

As many of you know, the Airline Employees Association ( AEA) is holding meetings across the country this month at various airports where WestJet operates. The idea, as far as we can tell, is to convince WestJet staff that they do not need a real union.

Here’s the thing. As these meetings progress, Unifor organizers are reporting an uptick in interest from WestJet’s frontline airport workers in joining Unifor, with several people at different airports asking if they can sign a card.

More than that, they are also asking for blank cards that they can take to their co-workers so they can sign cards, as well.

This is hardly surprising. The AEA has shown itself unable or unwilling to stand up for you and your co-workers. In the past few months alone, new uniforms, benefits and inadequate wage rates have been handed down with no input from you. And when you spoke up about the unfairness of all this, the AEA failed to speak up for you.

While unions representing the flight attendants, pilots and dispatchers have met with the employer and expressed the concerns of their members, the AEA has stayed silent.

That’s not good enough, and no cross-country junket will change that.

You deserve a real union, and a real voice in your company and your industry as both go through a period of profound change.
Shareholders vote on the Onex takeover next week. Now is the time to gain a real voice.

If you are interested in signing a card, or getting cards for your co-workers to sign, simply reach out to one of your Organizers and we will help you with that.
