Building a Stronger Future at the Contact Centre

This week we sent a letter directly to the CCEA representatives. You can read the letter here:

In it, we recognized that many of them likely got involved because they care about fairness and wanted to help their coworkers. That effort deserves respect.

But we also made it clear: the CCEA is not a union. It has no legal authority to force WestJet or Onex to negotiate, and no power to enforce protections for employees. That leaves you exposed to outsourcing, downsizing, and “performance management” schemes like L.I.F.T! and Voluntary Separation Offers.

We are calling on CCEA reps to be honest about those limits and to support the choice that will actually protect Contact Centre jobs: joining Unifor. With Unifor, you can negotiate a legally binding collective agreement that protects your jobs, wages, and working conditions.

This isn’t about division—it’s about building bridges and bringing everyone together to create a strong, resilient Contact Centre that can’t be hollowed out by corporate cost-cutting.

We encourage you to start the conversation:

  • Has the CCEA ever stopped outsourcing?

  • Has it been able to protect wages, schedules, or vacation from cuts?

  • Who really stands up for you when jobs are on the line?

The truth is, workers deserve more than a symbolic voice. You deserve a real union, real bargaining power, and real protections.

Heidi’s Update: What It Means for You

You may have also seen Heidi’s latest email. While framed as routine communication, it highlights once again the changes unfolding at the Contact Centre.

Voluntary Separation Offers, “performance management” programs like L.I.F.T!, and outsourcing are not isolated updates—they are part of the same long-term strategy by Onex/WestJet to reduce costs and shift work away from Canadian employees.

As these updates continue, it’s natural to ask hard questions about what role the CCEA can play in protecting jobs. The reality is that the CCEA does not have the legal authority to stop outsourcing or enforce binding protections. That’s why conversations are happening now about building stronger, enforceable protections through Unifor, where workers can negotiate a collective agreement that ensures stability and fairness for the future.
