WestJet Call Centre and Campus Employees,
We hope this message finds you well. We understand that the recent surge in flight cancellations, rebookings, and increased customer frustrations have significantly impacted your workload and added stress. We want to check in with you and remind you that your well-being is our top priority.
It’s important to remember that every worker has the right to a safe and harassment-free workplace. If you encounter any form of harassment during your duties, please report it immediately to management. Your safety and mental health are paramount.
While Unifor is not yet able to fully advocate for you as members of the union, we wanted to share some of the things we could do in circumstances like you are currently facing.
We would work closely with WestJet’s leaders and directors to ensure our members at WestJet are taken care of during these challenging times.
Here are some key actions we could advocate for:
-
Support from Leaders: We would direct our members to lean on their leaders as needed. Managers are expected to handle the more challenging issues, ensuring that you are supported effectively.
-
Call Centre Adjustments: We would push for the removal of KPIs and the addition of more breaks for call centre employees. Working from home can be isolating, and we want to ensure you have access to your leaders and DPMs 24/7. A mechanism would be in place to pass on irate guests when needed, to help reduce your stress.
-
Worker Benefits: In airports, leadership has offered double time and bonuses for working during these times. They have also provided extra food, water, and transportation home for workers who finish late shifts and have difficulty getting home. We would advocate for these same benefits for Call Centre and Campus workers.
- Premium Negotiations: We would negotiate a premium for those of you who are isolated and facing greater pressure due to the increased workload.
The best way to push our campaign forward and achieve majority support is to continue talking about the union at every possible opportunity. Spread the word about the Unifor union advantage.
Stay strong, and thank you for your hard work and dedication during this period.
