We wanted to take a moment to check in with you directly about the organizing efforts for Customer Service Agents and supporting roles at Edmonton International Airport (YEG). While many of our recent updates have covered the broader Unifor campaign across multiple WestJet worker groups, I want to connect specifically with you about what this means for Airport Customer Service workers at YEG.
Right now, decisions about your job—your wages, scheduling, working conditions, and job security—are made without your input. By joining Unifor, you gain a real voice in your workplace and the ability to negotiate a collective agreement that ensures fair treatment, stronger protections, and better working conditions.
Management Changes Bring Uncertainty – A Collective Agreement Brings Stability
Recent management changes in Edmonton are a reminder of how quickly things can shift when new leadership comes in with new ideas and new favourites. Change can happen overnight, and without a union, there are no guarantees or protections if new management decides to make sudden adjustments to scheduling, policies, or workplace culture.
YEG is now the last small location still represented by the Airports Employee Association (AEA), which has seen rapid changes over the years. Without a legally binding collective agreement, uncertainty will only continue. A Unifor contract locks in your rights, wages, and job security, ensuring that no matter how many times management changes, your working conditions remain protected and predictable.
Stronger Together – United Across All Bases
WestJet workers across the country are uniting under Unifor to build a better, more stable future. By joining with your coworkers in Calgary, Vancouver, and Toronto, YEG workers will no longer be left behind or at the mercy of shifting management decisions. Stronger together means better contracts, better wages, and better job security for all.
We’ve already seen strong support from WestJet airport workers across the country, and we are close to reaching the majority needed to move forward at YEG. With just a few more cards left to collect, now is the time to spread the word and build excitement about why Unifor is the right choice for WestJet airport workers in Edmonton.
Your conversations with coworkers can make all the difference. If you have any questions, want to chat, or are ready to sign your card, don’t hesitate to reach out!
Let’s build a stronger, fairer workplace for WestJet YEG airport workers—together.
