Bargaining Committee Update #13 – June 17, 2022
The Bargaining Committee arrived in Toronto early on Sunday, June 12th prepared to meet at 9am on Monday. The Company was not prepared to deliver language until 1630. To not delay the process, we responded to their proposal immediately that night. We WestJetters are tired of the status quo and change cannot come fast enough. We are working towards a deadline and will continue to keep you informed.
In our last communication we began the conversation around the next steps of conciliation. This process is new to all of us and we want our membership to know the steps that need to be taken. Our voice is your collective voice and we will win as one. We’ve listened, supported and settled proposals that were brought forward at the proposal meetings. We will continue to advance the agenda. We don’t take strike conversation lightly, we are ensuring that the process is laid out clearly so that we as WestJetters can make an informed decision. Your trust in us as we continue to work towards a better life for you at WestJet, enables us to move forward confidently in our work.
We are looking for volunteer Members who would like to become involved in the Local 531 Mobilization Team. As the deadline for conciliation approaches, we may encounter a scenario in which preparations for future steps are vital. The Bargaining Committee needs to have an accurate way to share our concerns with every member in a quick manner.
If this is something you are interested in, please reach out to us at [email protected] The Mobilization Team is an integral part of Bargaining and is a good opportunity to get involved in the Union. We would require a minimal time commitment. Once we have a team established, we will provide you with information, so you are able to share it quickly and accurately on the floor.
E-Learning Reminder
Follow these links if you complete the e-learnings on your own time to ensure you are paid appropriately.
Finally, a gentle reminder that our friends in DDC, IOC, ALC, Quality Advisors and Workforce are our equals. They are Unifor Local 531 members and are facing stressful days, just the same as those on the frontlines, in guest facing positions. Kindness and how we speak to one another is always the expectation. We are stronger together, be kind.
In Solidarity,
Your Unifor 531 Bargaining Committee
