Unifor members at Aeroplan call centres ratified a new collective agreement last week that ended two-tier wages, included generous signing bonuses, secured work for members as the loyalty program goes through a period of transition and stronger part-time vacation language.

Under the previous contract, workers hired after 2016 were paid less. Those members will see what amounts to an approximate 60 per cent increase in compensation over the course of the collective agreement as two-tier wages are removed. By 2024, the top salary will be $30.56 an hour.

Unifor Local 2002 represents 400 Aeroplan workers in British Columbia and Quebec, as well as 5,600 members who work as Customer Sales and Service Agents, Customer Relations Representatives and Crew Schedulers across Canada.

Like WestJet, Aeroplan is going through a period of transition. Air Canada purchased Aeroplan through a partnership with TD Bank, CIBC, and Visa a year ago. As Air Canada prepares to launch a new loyalty program, this collective agreement will see Unifor members through that process.

The negotiations for this collective agreement reflected Unifor’s priorities of ensuring fair compensation for workers that reflects their contributions to the employer’s success, ending inequities within the workplace and protecting workers through periods of transition.

Workers at WestJet can expect the same commitment from Unifor.

If you have any questions, would like to sign a Unifor card or find out how you can help your co-workers sign a card, we would love to hear from you.
