With the busy holiday travel season upon us, Unifor would like to wish you and yours a Happy Holiday and all the best for the New Year.
With the takeover of WestJet by Onex having achieved federal approval, 2020 promises to be a very busy and transformative year for WestJet and its workers. The decision by Boeing this week to take the 737 Max out of production is also sure to add to the turmoil in the airline industry in 2020.
In the meantime, there’s the busy holiday rush to get through, one of the busiest times of the year for airport workers – which can make for a stressful time as we try to balance work responsibilities with the needs of family and the desire to enjoy the best holidays we can.
It is at times like these that the importance of a good union, one that can help ensure fair scheduling, is most apparent. Airport workers who are members of Unifor have been able to negotiate scheduling contract language based on predictability, flexibility and fairness – and with a grievance procedure to settle any disputes.
We will talk about all that and more in the New Year, along with keeping you up to date on changes to your working conditions due to the Onex takeover and how the challenges at Boeing might affect WestJet and its staff.
Until then, enjoy your time off over the holidays.
If you get the chance, please also remember those who are less fortunate, and donate to food and toy drives in your neighbourhood. Unifor participates in toy, food and clothing drives across Canada – because everyone deserves a happy holiday season.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
