Over the past few years, WestJet Contact Centre workers have watched their jobs change — and not for the better.

Under Onex ownership, the values that once made WestJet feel like a family have been replaced with corporate priorities and cost-cutting decisions. The Contact Centre is feeling it first.

This is not the WestJet you helped to build.
It is now owned by Onex, a private equity fund whose mission is to extract profits, not protect workers.

And that reality is showing up in every part of your job.

The Cuts Keep Coming

Outsourcing and Offshoring Are Accelerating

Chat support was outsourced to WNS in India, and more recently to Telus Digital in El Salvador
More than 400 Sales and Service Agent roles have been moved offshore to El Salvador, reducing career opportunities in Canada

Wages Have Stagnated

New hires start near the federal minimum wage
Many workers have not seen meaningful raises in years despite the rising cost of living

Stability Is Disappearing

More workers are scheduled with inconsistent shift start times
Long-serving employees are being pushed into part time positions

The Workload Has Increased and the Support Has Not

Agents now handle more complex issues with less training
Under the LIFT surveillance system, every second of your day is monitored to manage and evaluate performance
What used to be coaching has become performance warnings
Stress and burnout are at an all-time high

Sick and Personal Days

Taking time off for illness can result in being passed over for promotions, job opportunities, or loss of temporary assignments

Onex Is Changing the Workplace Culture

What once felt like a supportive team now feels like silence
Workers feel disposable, unheard, and undervalued

This Is Your Moment

Ask yourself
Are things getting better on their own
Are you better off today than you were three years ago
Do you feel valued, protected, and respected

If the answer is no, it is time to take the next step
