We want to share an important story that reflects what many workers are experiencing across the Contact Centre today.

Meet Amie. She is one of 800 WestJet call centre workers in Calgary as good jobs continue to be shifted overseas. Over the past year alone, more than 400 roles have been moved to TELUS Digital agents in El Salvador.

This is not just about one worker or one team. It is part of a broader pattern that is reshaping work at WestJet, reducing job security, and creating uncertainty for workers and their families.

While the company moves forward with outsourcing, workers here are left without clear answers, without protections, and without a real say in decisions that directly impact their livelihoods.

This is exactly why workers come together to build collective strength.

A union is not just about wages. It is about having enforceable rights, transparency, and a voice in the workplace. It is about ensuring that decisions like outsourcing, scheduling, and working conditions are not made unilaterally, but are subject to negotiation and accountability.

Unifor represents 320,000 workers across Canada, including thousands in aviation and telecommunications. Together, those workers have secured stronger protections, better working conditions, and a real voice at work.

The challenges we are seeing today reinforce why that collective strength matters.

We will continue to stand with WestJet workers and support efforts to build the protections and stability that come with a strong union.
