As 2026 gets underway, Unifor is seeing growing engagement and momentum across WestJet, including within the TAPS group. This momentum is being fueled by organizing efforts in several areas of the company, including the Contact Centre, where workers are working hard to secure collective representation and meaningful workplace protections.

At the same time, Unifor is anxiously awaiting a ruling from the Canada Industrial Relations Board on the current application for certification for WestJet Crew Schedulers. That decision will be an important milestone for workers who are seeking clarity, fairness, and formal recognition of their collective rights.

In addition, Unifor has filed an Unfair Labour Practice complaint with the Board regarding the treatment of the Crew Schedulers group. The Board has directed the employer to file its response by late January, and Unifor will be submitting its reply on February 2, 2026. This process is part of ensuring that workers are protected under the law while they exercise their right to organize.

TAPS workers understand that unionization is about having enforceable rights, transparency in decision making, and a voice when organizational changes are introduced. Organizing allows workers to negotiate collectively over wages, workload, job security, and working conditions rather than relying on unilateral employer decisions.

Unifor is committed to supporting WestJet workers across classifications because of our experience representing workers in aviation, technical, professional, and office roles. The excitement building among Contact Centre workers reflects a broader desire across WestJet for fairness, respect, and stability. Unifor is proud to support TAPS workers as they consider joining together as members of Unifor and strengthening their collective voice.
