Unifor National President Jerry Dias and the newly-formed Local 531 Bargaining Committee members are at the table today, as bargaining with WestJet takes off in Vancouver.
The bargaining team consists of Sherwin Antonio-YYC, Lindsay Landry - YYC, Jamie Mote-YYC, Sandeep Samrai-YYC, Karen Berry-YVR, Mark Enns-YVR- Breanne Laihow-YVR.
Joining the local 531 team is Jerry Dias, National President of Unifor and Scott Doherty, Executive Assistant to the President of Unifor, who oversees the Airline sector; Leslie Dias, Unifor Director of Airlines and Frances Galambosy, Unifor National Representative.
Since joining Unifor in May 2021, WestJetters in YYC and YVR have been busy setting up their local union, electing bargaining committee members and putting in long hours of membership outreach to prepare for collective bargaining. Unifor is committed to getting a fair deal for its airport agents in Calgary and Vancouver.
Workers joined Unifor to have a strong voice in their workplace during a challenging time in their industry. WestJet workers are dedicated employees who have a great deal to offer as the airline moves forward.
The airline sector has been seeing a steady increase in demand and hiring levels as it rebounds from the devastating effects of the pandemic. Organizing efforts remain strong in Toronto and Edmonton as more and more WestJetters sign union membership cards to ensure they, too, get a seat at the table.
If you have friends that work at these bases and have not yet signed a Unifor membership card, let them know that they can do this at join.unifor.org/federalcard
Unifor represents 7,500 airport agents at other airlines, including Air Canada, Jazz, Porter, First Air, Calm Air and more. In all, Unifor represents more than 16,000 workers across the airline industry
Together, we fly.
