Unifor YYZ Bargaining Committee Update Letter NO.3 November 17th, 2022

Hello YYZ,

We hope this update finds everyone well and that you have had a great few weeks since our last update.

YYZ Base Proposal Day

This past week, on November 9th, we hosted our YYZ Base Proposal Day. It was set as a full day of connecting with our colleagues, sharing areas of our proposal, receiving feedback and ensuring your voice has a place to be heard.  We would like to thank those who were able to join us in person and those who took the time to submit questions and feedback. With all of your voices, we can present what we believe is an accurate proposal of the needs of YYZ.

You can be sure that the primary concerns identified by you will be brought forward by your bargaining committee to be addressed with the employer. Here are a few of your top bargaining objectives:

  • Wages
  • Training
  • Roles
  • Benefits
  • Retirement
  • Hiring

Please know we are here, and we hope you will continue to speak openly, email with questions, and share your concerns at any time. With all of your voices, we can stand strong in our bargaining and ensure the base's concerns are addressed.

As of November 14th, 2022, Negotiations have begun!

November 14th-16th wraps up our first week of bargaining.  We have been intentional about your priorities and concerns that we have proposed to WestJet, and ensuring that what we share is clear and reflects the needs you have all expressed to us. We return to bargaining next week, November 21st-23rd, and continue in the coming weeks.

The bargaining team will be on YYZ premises weekly, bargaining permitting. Ensuring we are at all respective team rooms (CSA, BSA, HUB) and throughout the airport so we can answer as many questions as possible and be present for any meetings with management should you request us. This will commence on November 30th. Please take a moment and reach out in person if you see us; we would love to hear from and speak with you!  We cannot stress enough that if you have any meetings where union representation is eligible, please reach out to us via the email below. A representative will communicate directly with you. You are entitled to a union representative should you request one.

We do want to share that all bargaining is strictly confidential until we reach a collective agreement, so please know we do not wish to come across as vague but need to make sure that we respect this process. One of the key details of confidentiality is that what has been agreed upon can change at any point.

Until then, hold down the fort in YYZ, as we do miss being a part of the team, helping the daily operation, and working alongside each and every one of you. You are the reason we are bargaining for what we hope will be a successful collective agreement!

We thank you for your unwavering support and patience!

Warmly,

The YYZ Bargaining Committee
Erica Kelly, Keaton Cole, Maria-Jose Bouey
