Onex WestJet's actions to fire thousands of workers and outsource their jobs to third party ground handling companies continue across the country. This week 130 workers in Manitoba saw this reality come true as they finished their last day of work.

These cuts first announced back in the spring as part of thousands of WestJet airports jobs to be cut as Onex WestJet moved to outsource the jobs of faithful employees who worked so hard to build WestJet into the company it was.

In Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver WestJetters are still actively signing Unifor membership cards in an attempt to secure their future and bring about fairness in their workplace.

Unifor has been the voice for these workers even though the union does not yet represent them.

This week, Unifor's Chris MacDonald, the assistant to the National President; called these latest cuts 'a slap in the face' to workers in a CBC article.

Unifor has continued to call out these actions as corporate greed by WestJet's new owners Onex who uses the pandemic and the current crisis in the airline sector to cut future costs and shed faithful employees before the airline sector rebounds.
