Where things currently stand
We wanted to provide a brief update to the Crew Scheduling team on where things currently stand.
Unifor has an active application before the Canada Industrial Relations Board regarding Crew Schedulers, and we are awaiting a ruling from the Board. As part of that process, there are periods where things can feel quiet, but that does not mean nothing is happening. The Board process is ongoing, and we continue to engage through the appropriate legal and procedural channels.
Update on the unfair labour practice complaint
We also want to provide clarity on recent legal steps taken to protect Crew Schedulers.
Unifor has amended its unfair labour practice complaint to include additional information following WestJet’s decision to withhold the two percent wage structure increase from Crew Schedulers. This amendment builds on and supports our initial unfair labour practice complaint, which addressed the withholding of the training allowance. Taken together, these actions demonstrate a pattern of conduct that Unifor believes is inconsistent with the statutory freeze provisions and workers’ rights during an organizing process.
Mediation scheduled with the Labour Board
We are pleased to share that the parties to this matter have mutually agreed to participate in a mediation session, scheduled for March 6, 2026, with Industrial Relations Officer Fisnik Kumnova. This is a meaningful step in the process and provides an opportunity to address these issues directly through the Board’s mediation process.
Moving forward
We know this has been a challenging and uncertain period. What is important to understand is that Crew Scheduling continues to be supported, and these matters are being actively pursued. We will continue to share updates as soon as new information becomes available.
