Welcome to Unifor!

On behalf of Unifor, we are excited to officially welcome more than 800 WestJet Contact Centre employees to our union!

On October 8, 2026, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) officially certified Unifor as your bargaining representative, confirming the decision you and your coworkers made to join together and have a stronger collective voice in your workplace.

Congratulations! This is an important achievement, and one that belongs to you and your coworkers.

Throughout the organizing campaign, employees spoke about wanting greater job security, fairness, transparency, and a meaningful voice in decisions affecting their jobs and working conditions. By joining Unifor, you have taken an important step toward addressing those priorities through collective bargaining.

You are now part of Canada's largest private sector union, representing workers across the country, including thousands in the aviation industry. You will be joining Unifor Local 531, which already represents WestJet employees working at airports across Canada.

As this is our first official communication to all Contact Centre employees, we want to outline what happens next, how you can get involved, and the important role you will play in negotiating your first collective agreement.

Our first priority is electing your bargaining committee, and we are opening nominations today!

Building Your Bargaining Committee

Your bargaining committee will play an important role in representing Contact Centre employees throughout negotiations with WestJet.

Committee members will work alongside Unifor National Representatives and Local 531 leadership to identify workplace priorities, develop bargaining proposals, and negotiate your first collective agreement.

We have established a seven-member bargaining committee structure that recognizes the size and diversity of the Contact Centre while ensuring representation across the different departments and job classifications.

Bargaining Committee Composition

Ensuring Every Employee Has a Voice

We have made every effort to group job classifications in a way that provides fair and meaningful representation across the Contact Centre, recognizing the different roles, responsibilities, and sizes of each department.

Employees will nominate and vote for bargaining committee representatives within their assigned classification group.

Regardless of which group you belong to, every employee will have the opportunity to participate in the bargaining process.

Following the elections, all employees will be invited to complete a bargaining survey to identify the workplace issues, concerns, improvements, and priorities they want addressed in their first collective agreement.

Your elected bargaining committee will represent the interests of all Contact Centre employees, and your feedback will help shape the proposals we bring forward in negotiations with WestJet.

Nominations Are Now Open!

Employees may nominate themselves or another coworker from within their assigned classification group.

All nominations must be submitted by email to [email protected].

Your email must clearly indicate whether you are nominating yourself or another employee and include the name of the person being nominated and their position.

Your statement should briefly introduce yourself, identify your job classification, and explain why you would like to represent your coworkers.

Candidate statements should be no longer than 150 words.

Candidate photos and statements will be made available to eligible voters before voting begins, giving members an opportunity to learn more about the candidates.

Submitting a photo and statement is optional and will not affect your eligibility to stand for election.

How Voting Will Work

Elections will be conducted electronically through Simply Voting, the secure voting platform used during your union representation vote.

Employees will vote for representatives within their assigned classification group.

Service & Sales: The three candidates receiving the highest number of votes will be elected as bargaining committee representatives. The candidate receiving the fourth-highest number of votes will serve as the alternate.

All other groups: The candidate receiving the highest number of votes will be elected as the bargaining committee representative, with the second-highest candidate serving as the alternate.

Where the number of accepted nominations does not exceed the number of available positions, candidates may be declared elected by acclamation, subject to the election rules.

Please watch your personal email for your Simply Voting credentials on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

Voting credentials will be sent to the personal email address provided by WestJet, which is the same address where you are receiving this notice.

If you do not receive your voting credentials, please check your junk or spam folder before contacting [email protected] for assistance.

What Is Expected of Bargaining Committee Members?

Serving on the bargaining committee is an important responsibility and requires a significant commitment.

Committee members will be expected to:

  • Participate in membership consultations and help identify bargaining priorities.

  • Attend bargaining preparation meetings, training, and negotiations.

  • Represent the interests of all members, not just their individual department or classification.

  • Maintain confidentiality and respect for the collective bargaining process.

  • Be available for extended bargaining sessions, which may involve travel, time away from home, and changes to previously scheduled vacation.

  • Return to their regular WestJet duties when not actively participating in bargaining.

Members considering running for the bargaining committee should understand that negotiations can be demanding and may require flexibility with personal and work schedules.

What Happens Next?

Once the bargaining committee has been elected, we will begin preparing for negotiations with WestJet.

This will include engaging members through bargaining surveys and consultation sessions to identify the issues and priorities that matter most to you.

Your bargaining committee will work with Unifor National Representatives to develop proposals that reflect the priorities of Contact Centre employees.

Your participation matters. Whether you decide to run for the committee, nominate a coworker, vote in the election, or participate in the bargaining survey, your voice will help shape what we bring to the negotiating table.

Moving Forward Together

We recognize that many of you have questions about what happens next, how bargaining works, and what joining Unifor means for your workplace.

Over the coming weeks, we will continue to share information, answer questions, and provide opportunities for everyone to get involved.

Your decision to join Unifor was the first step. Now we begin the important work of building a strong union presence within the Contact Centre and negotiating a first collective agreement that reflects your priorities.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this organizing campaign successful, particularly those who spoke with coworkers, answered questions, and encouraged others to participate.

Welcome to Unifor. We look forward to working together!
