WestJet Contact Centre Update — Fewer Hours, More Pressure, and Why You Deserve Better

You’ve likely noticed what’s been happening inside the Contact Centre over the past few weeks. Several of you have received messages from Workforce offering the option to go part-time, with some full-time workers being told their change could take effect as early as January 1, 2026.
At the same time, part-time employees are being asked to take an extra day off each week, cutting schedules to just three days, even while queues stay full and the calls don’t stop coming in.
Many of you have shared that the micromanaging and the pressure of the L.I.F.T. program are creating a toxic environment that sets people up for failure. None of this is happening by accident. These changes are part of WestJet’s larger plan to “lean out” operations and shift work offshore as the company prepares to go public.
You’ve already seen the pattern:

Work is moving to El Salvador, where agents are paid far less and training standards aren’t the same.

Hours are being cut without explanation.

Full-time staff are being encouraged to move part-time — and that’s before public trading even starts.

The departments that are already unionized aren’t seeing these same cuts because they’ve protected themselves through a collective agreement.
That’s the difference a union makes.
When you sign a confidential Unifor card, you give yourself a real voice and the power to bargain for fair scheduling, job protection, and respect. Without a union, the company can continue making unilateral changes — like reducing shifts, changing schedules, or moving work overseas — without your input.
