One of the questions we’ve been hearing is: What happens after Contact Centre workers vote YES for Unifor?

The first thing to know is that Unifor doesn’t arrive with a collective agreement already written.

It starts with you and your coworkers.

You come together to identify the issues that matter most. You elect coworkers to represent you at the bargaining table. Together, you develop your bargaining priorities and begin negotiating your first collective agreement with WestJet.

That could mean having a say on things like wages, benefits, scheduling, breaks, workload, job security, seniority and how workplace changes are handled.

The goal is to negotiate an agreement that works for the people who do the work.

Unifor wants WestJet to be successful too. The company’s success matters because that success should also benefit the people who help make it possible every day.

We want to make sure Contact Centre workers are treated with respect, have a real voice in their working conditions and share in that success through fair wages, benefits and working conditions.

And for anyone worried about what bargaining could mean, more than 99% of Unifor collective agreements are settled without a strike or lockout.

Your WestJet Airports colleagues are a great example. They joined Unifor, negotiated their first collective agreement without a strike, and are now preparing to negotiate their second agreement.

After a YES vote, the process is about getting ready to bargain:

You set the priorities.
You elect your representatives.
You bargain with WestJet.
You vote on your first collective agreement.

Have questions? Come talk with us tomorrow.

Our first Drop-In Open House is tomorrow, Friday, September 11.

Courtyard by Marriott Calgary Airport
Wrangler Room
2500 48 Ave NE, Calgary
10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

No appointment is needed. Drop in when it works for you, ask questions and learn more about what having a collective voice could mean for you and your coworkers.

We’ll also be available Saturday and Sunday. If you can’t make one of the open houses, call or text me at 416-605-1443 and we can find another time to talk.

For too long, Contact Centre workers have had to adapt to decisions affecting their jobs. A YES vote is your opportunity to have a collective say in those decisions.

Vote YES for Unifor.
