YEG: Silence Is Costing You Your Voice
We’re reaching out because over the past few weeks there has been little to no activity in terms of support or new membership cards.
We believe many of you still want the union. But we also know what happened last time. When momentum started building, a small group of loud and aggressive voices worked hard to shut it down.
Don’t let them silence you. Don’t let them win, because right now, it looks like they are.
The longer workers stay quiet and cards expire, the less likely it becomes to secure the protections that come with a union.
At the same time, Onex WestJet continues to move forward with cuts, restructuring, and changes to management reporting. The company has been clear in its own words that everything is on the table. This comes as Onex has publicly stated its intention to prepare WestJet for sale.
We are already seeing the impact. Team Leads in the Contact Centre were recently let go without notice. Many believed they were safe. Some were against the union and did not sign cards. Had they been part of a certified group, they would have had greater protections and a voice in how changes were handled.
This is the reality.
