As many of you have noticed, WestJet has an external job posting for part-time (PT) Customer Service Agent (CSA) positions.

The union has had numerous conversations with WestJet to discuss this and other matters about the membership. While we do not have a current collective agreement that sets out a particular process, both the union and WestJet are eager to ensure fairness until we have an agreement that sets out the process. They have advised that an internal posting should go out today.

We can confirm that the employer's position is that all employees on layoff who previously performed the function of CSA will have the opportunity to accept a position as a PT CSA. However, if you take this new PT CSA role, you will forfeit recall rights to your current job. WestJet says that they still have no timeline for when the Lead positions would be recalled. When the need arises for these roles, they will post the job openings according to the usual process, and members could apply.

Those members accepting the new PT CSA jobs would not be guaranteed the posting. Still, we would presume they have an advantage in selection as they have previously performed the work, but that would be at the Company's discretion.
