With the busy Christmas rush behind us, it is time to reflect on our needs and desires for the year ahead.

Certainly, this is something WestJet is doing. In an end-of-the-year interview with the Calgary Herald, WestJet CEO Ed Sims called the last year a rollercoaster as more and more WestJet workers joined unions and the company embarked on a cost-cutting plan, which will continue this year.

His comments make it clear that WestJet is changing as it grows larger, enters new international markets, launches the Dreamliner aircraft and retrofits its domestic fleet to have premium seating for the first time.

Throughout all this change, pilots, flight attendants and dispatchers will all have a voice as newly organized union members. Frontline workers need a voice, too. Joining Unifor gives you a seat at that table. Do not be left on the outside, while others decide your fate.

We look forward to talking with you more in the year ahead. For many, the busy Christmas period reminds us about how important fair and flexible scheduling is to job satisfaction and work life balance, and we will have more to discuss with you about scheduling in the weeks ahead.

In the meantime, we hope you have a good start to 2019 before the February and March rushes begin.

If you have any questions, please reach out to one of your organizers.
